The Sacramento City Teachers Association would like to welcome you the Sacramento City Unified School District. Our District is one of the largest urban districts not only in the state, but in the country as well.
The school year is moving right along. In addition to your teaching responsibilites, you will want to find opportunities to involve yourself in a variety of activites at your site. There are always extra programs and committees that can use your help. You will never lack for something to do if you take a few moments to look around.
Active membership in the Association has many benefits. You have access to free job and non-job related legal advice. We offer financial programs to assist you with your financial questions. You are eligible for a variety of CTA endorsed insurances, such as income protection, life, home, and auto. Newly hired teachers have 120 days to sign up for life and disability insurance with no health questions asked. TSA Special Services offers discount entertainment tickets, auto purchasing, and travel arrangements. The SCTA office has a rack of informational pamplets and brochures for your perusal.
This school year will see the Association negotiating what you have directed through your Site Representatives. Those who have been involved in the Association work long enough to know what it was like before collective bargaining can tell you our "rights" today were hard won victories at the bargaining table. It is the intent of this Association this year to bargain significant improvements for you and your students. We will also be actively involved in the upcoming school board election.
Remember that you have a variety of support services available to you. Don't hesistate to take advantage of them. We are first and formost an Association that is here to assist you in any way we can. Your SCTA Site Representative is the first person to turn to should you need something. The staff at SCTA office can help you or direct you to someone who can if you need further assistance. Finally, remember that membership becomes more valuable when you become involved!
